How to change your settings to be able to send emails

This page contains steps for the following email softwares:

 

For Mozilla Thunderbird

  1. Go to Tools > Account Settings.
  2. Choose the Outgoing Server (SMTP) on the left pane.
  3. Select the SMTP server for your domain here.
  4. Click Edit.
  5. Change the number in the Port field to 587.
  6. Make sure the "Connection Security" is set to NONE.
  7. Click OK.
  8. Click OK again to close the Account Settings window.

 

For Microsoft Outlook 2010

  1. Go to the 'File' tab
  2. Go to the 'Info' section
  3. Click on 'Account Settings'
  4. Click the drop-down button titled 'Account Settings...'
  5. Select your email account from the list.
  6. Click the 'Change...' button
  7. Do NOT tick "Require logon using Secure Password Authentication (SPA)"
  8. Click the 'More Settings...' button
  9. Select the 'Outgoing Server' tab.
  10. Tick "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication"
  11. Select "Use same settings as my incoming server"
  12. Select the 'Advanced' tab.
  13. Ensure the 'Outgoing server (SMTP)' port field is set to 587
  14. Under the Outgoing Server, make sure that "Use the following type of encrypted connection: " is NONE
  15. Click the 'Next >' button
  16. In the next window click 'Finish'
  17. In the 'Account Settings' window click 'Close'

 

For Microsoft Outlook 2007

  1. Open Tools > Account Settings.
  2. Select your email account from the list.
  3. Click Change.
  4. Click More Settings.
  5. Tick the "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication" box.
  6. Make sure that "Use same settings as my incoming mail server" is chosen.
  7. Click the Advanced tab.
  8. Change the Outgoing Server field number to 587
  9. Make sure SSL / TLS / STARTTLS is NOT chosen for the "This server requires an encrypted connection"
  10. Click OK.
  11. Click Next until you reach the Finish button. Click Finish.

 

For Windows Mail

  1. Start Windows Mail, click the Tools menu at the top of the window and then click Accounts.
  2. Select your account under Mail, then click Properties button.
  3. Go to Servers tab, under Outgoing Mail Server, TICK the box that says "My server requires authentication"
  4. Go to Advanced tab, under Outgoing server (SMTP), change to 587.
  5. Under Outgoing Server, do NOT tick the "This server requires a secure connection (SSL)"
  6. Click the OK button.

 

For Outlook Express

  1. Open Tools > Accounts.
  2. Click the Mail tab.
  3. Select your email account from the list (example: you@yourcompany.com).
  4. Click the Properties button.
  5. Click the Servers tab
  6. Click on the Settings button below Outgoing Mail Server.
  7. Find the SMTP Port field (it might say 25).
  8. Change the Port to 587.
  9. Make sure the "My SMTP server requires authentication" box is ticked.
  10. Click on the Advanced tab.
  11. Make sure the "This server requires a secure connection (SSL)" is NOT ticked.
  12. Click OK.
  13. Click OK again until you've closed all windows.
  14. Restart Outlook Express.

 

For MacMail

  1. Open Preferences in the Mail menu.
  2. Click the Accounts tab to locate your account. Open it.
  3. Open the Outgoing Mail Server window
    • by selecting the existing Outgoing server from the drop down
    • OR by clicking Server Settings button"
  4. Change the number in the Port field to 587 (or you might have to choose "Custom Port").
  5. Set the Encryption Method to NONE.
  6. Tick the "Use Authentication" box OR set the "Authentication" to "Password"
    • Enter your full email address as your Username
    • Enter your email password as your Password
  7. Click Continue or OK.
  8. Click Continue again. Close any remaining windows.


For iPhone

As the iPhone email software normally correctly identifies the server settings, you will not need to change any settings on your phone. If you do face any issues, please get in touch with our Technical Support Dept as it may not be related to the port problem that this article provides the resolution for.


For Blackberry

We have already taken the necessary steps, as recommended by the Blackberry device manufacturer, in order to ensure that Blackberry devices are able to succesfully connect to send/receive emails without any changes to their settings. If you do face any issues, please get in touch with our Technical Support Dept as it may not be related to the port problem that this article provides the resolution for.
